Habitat: Eastern US. Eastern wild turkeys are one of the largest game birds. Turkeys eat fruit, acorns, small grains, seeds, shoots, and roots of grasses. Turkeys are surprisingly agile fliers. European explorers took Wild Turkeys to Europe from Mexico in the early 1500s. Benjamin Franklin believed the turkey rather than the eagle should be the US national bird. The turkeys at Cherokee Trace are a domestic Standard Bronze variety.
